兩位巴黎青年厭倦了在城市的枯燥乏味，於是懷抱著滿腹天馬行空的幻想，一路往南來到土魯斯尋找生活的樂趣。他們的公路之旅因為各種意料之外的插曲而不得不改變計畫，兩人順手牽羊偷了一台車想繼續上路，卻發現有位神秘的老人竟在贓車後座打盹，跟著一起踏上旅程。神秘老人喜歡跟樹木對話，享受涉水而行，宛如與世隔絕的遊俠，但是身上揣懷著秘密，以及一把上了膛的槍。三人展開一場漫無目的不知終點為何的冒險，在旅程中逐漸拾取存在的意義。
無論是逃避現實或是尋覓過去，三段迥異的人生終究殊途同歸地相遇、前行。電影以絢麗、鮮明的色彩，講述一段無盡哀傷的人物故事。醉人的湖光林蔭，增添爛漫、神秘的面紗。本片為義大利一代名演員尤蒙頓的銀幕絕唱，細膩詮釋了一自我放逐但又無法真正放下的孤寂靈魂。
Young graffiti artist Tony and his young streetwise friend Jockey are driving across France with some thirty luminous garden dwarfs - the make-believe symbols of a certain suburban France - in the back of their van. And they jump-start an unexpected adventure when they steal a car that’s already occupied by an older man Leon sleeping in the back. And Tony is overcome by the irresistible urge to give up the van and the dwarfs to return to Toulouse and Gloria, the nurse he'd met the night before.

1946年出生於巴黎，被視為法國視覺系電影（Cinéma du look）運動的重要旗手。1970年代擔任名導尚貝克的助理，1980年代開始拍攝自己的作品，首作《歌劇紅伶》即獲影壇注目，隨後《巴黎野玫瑰》更成為其最膾炙人口的代表作。畢生執導六部劇情長片，而後多投身製片工作。2022年因白血病逝於巴黎，享壽七十五歲。
French filmmaker Jean-Jacques Beineix is a director, producer and writer, best-known for two of the most provocative films of the 1980s: Diva (1982) and Betty Blue (1986). Dark, haunting, and filled with substantial helpings of violence and/or sex, both films were great successes and later categorized in the "cinéma du look", which also includes works of Luc Besson and Léos Carax.
