CHUANG Ching-shen is a Taiwanese director and producer. He is the assistant director of Seven Days in Heaven (2010) and producer of Jump! Boys (2005). His first short feature is The Eighteenth Birthday Party (2008) and first long is High Flash (2018).
This main theme explored by this film is the connections and interpersonal relationships between people. The "family" is the smallest unit in society, but love has nothing to do with blood, and people who live together might dislike each other more than people who are not. Even when people live in the same house, their hearts can actually be alienated. What I want to present is the situation of a family who is falling apart. It might not seem serious when you view it at first glance, but it is the projection of some real Taiwanese families.
I also analyzed the phenomenon of social media's hunting and exploitation of anime subculture through the fictional anime character "Bobida" and the friendship between the male protagonists. The film tries to restore a real story that is rigid to society’s norms and brings out the truthfulness of the charactors, and explores human desires, the pursuit of identity, and family relationships, behind the narritive.
