銀娣因其面容姣好，經媒婆介紹嫁給了姚家二少爺，怎料迎娶當日才得知二少爺身患殘疾又瞎眼，礙於聘禮已收，只好默默忍受。除了嫁入豪門後的勾心鬥角，家產分配之不公、與小叔三爺剪不斷理還亂的曖昧情仇，都讓銀娣在這複雜難抵的婚後生活逐漸扭曲自我，成為下一位狠辣惡毒的婆婆……。
惜英年早逝，僅留下三部長片作品的但漢章導演，鮮少為年輕一輩影迷所討論。《怨女》作為生前遺作，在當年曾風光入選坎城影展「一種注目」單元。青澀的高捷出演身患肺癆的瞎眼少爺可說維妙維肖，一代絕美港星夏文汐更是完美詮釋了銀娣的狠辣與怨氣，遑不論其極具講究的美術、服裝設計，怨女絕對是當年最被忽視且值得被更多人看見的大師之作。
Due to her beautiful appearance, Ying-ti married the second young master of the Yao family as arranged by a matchmaker. To her surprise, she learned on her wedding day that he was disabled and blind. Bound by the dowry already accepted, she silently endured. Amidst power struggles within the wealthy household, unfair property distribution, and an ambiguous relationship with the third uncle-in-law, Ying-ti's post-marriage life twisted her sense of self. She eventually becomes the next ruthless and malicious mother-in-law in this intricate tale of love, betrayal, and transformation.

但漢章，1949年湖北出生，台灣大學法律系畢業，從在學期間開始便常為各報刊撰寫影評，後任『影響』雜誌編輯，於1975年赴美研讀電影系，其所拍攝的《暗夜》成為第一部在美西藝術片院線的上映的國片。1990年回國籌拍新片，因過度勞累引起昏迷，得年41歲。
Fred Tan was born in 1955 in Taiwan. Fred was a director and writer, known for Rouge of the North (1988), which was selected for Cannes and Chicago International Film Festival, Lovers (1983) and Dark Night (1986). He died on 7 March 1990 in Taipei, Taiwan.
