本名劉燦波,1905 年生,臺南新營人。通曉英、法、日語、上海話、廣東話與北京話等,活躍於上海文壇與影壇,被歸類為「新感覺派」作家。在他傳奇的一生中,先後發行文藝雜誌、創辦書店及出版社,並籌辦電影公司。1940 年因政治立場,遭人於上海刺殺身亡,得年僅35 歲。過世後因政治因素,成就一直未獲肯定,直到近幾年終獲學者重新檢視,被視為是引領當時文學與電影腳步的先驅者,資深影評人黃仁讚其為「文壇影壇奇才」。 Na'ou LIU (1905-1940) was a Taiwanese writer and filmmaker, born in Tainan during the time when Taiwan was a colony of the Japanese Empire. LIU spent several years studying in Japan, before relocating to Shanghai in 1926. LIU was influenced by culturet remendously, establishing his worldview and sense of aesthetics. Due to his political leanings, he was assassinated at the age of 35. LIU is considered a pioneer of the literature and cinema in the 40s.
