枝姐為了傻兒子著想，找了孤苦無依的秋蓮做童養媳。每日與鐵鋪家男孩順興共同挑水，成了秋蓮苦悶生活的樂趣，他們相知相惜，也互敘情誼、私定終身。怎料平靜的生活，在嗜賭成性的阿雄入贅枝姐家門後，才是一切夢魘的開端。身陷囹圄之災的順興、遭遇非禮之行的秋蓮，兩位難成眷屬的有情人，將該如何是好呢？
《秋蓮》是繼《春寒》之後，鳳飛飛的第二部大銀幕主演作品，更二度攜手梁修身演出蕩氣迴腸、扣人心弦的淒美愛戀悲劇；除此之外，本片尚有侯孝賢出任編劇、金馬影帝柯俊雄耍壞飾演反派阿雄，一字排開在當時可說是最受人矚目的夢幻組合，而搭配電影量身打造的<又見秋蓮>、<小路上>、<情在深處>等插曲更被無數歌迷、影迷「鳳」為一代瑰寶。
Lian is a “child bride”. She is abused by her adoptive family intent on forcing her into an arranged marriage. Hsing, a neighbor, looks after Lian. When they grow up, they fall in love, pledging to stay together forever. But when gambling addict, Hsiung, tries to rape Lian, and kills the family’s son as he tries to intervene, Hsiung frames Hsing for the murder.

導演介紹
賴成英，1931年出生於台中。1955年，製片黃卓漢自香港來台拍攝《山地姑娘》，因莊國鈞推薦，展開其攝影師生涯，1959以《魔窟殺子報》，榮獲當年度新聞局獎勵優良國語片最佳黑白攝影獎，其先後拍攝的《群星會》、《秋決》，分別榮獲第八、第十屆金馬最佳攝影獎，並於2022獲得金馬終身成就獎。 LAI Cheng-ying is a Taiwanese cinematographer and film director. Lai is thought of as a pioneer of color filmmaking in Taiwan. He won multiple Golden Horse Awards in the category of Best Cinematography and was awarded the Golden Horse Lifetime Achievement Award in 2022.
